Travel Day-Depart Reykjavik
Dec 15: Sunrise 11:16a.
Since it was another night with very little sleep, I worked on my blog for awhile and read from 1-4am. Then tried to sleep. I think I slept from 7-8a when John got up to let me know what time it was. He went to breakfast but I just can't face that same buffet again. It was nice enough but most food here in Iceland at buffets is not really HOT or COLD... Plus, I think I have my salt intake at maximum! I will opt for a cheeseburger for lunch after we check out at noon.
Our shuttle pickup was between 1-1:30pand on time.
Shuttle: Reykjavik Excursions ticket purchased. Transfer
to the airport for our flight home. KEF 5:05p, Arrive SEA 5:00p, Depart SEA
7:30p Arrive FAT 9:41p
Notes:
Lots of driving, things are farther apart than I thought.
Glad we brought the poncho, though by chance we didn't need it.
Don't bother with an umbrella, the winds make that a joke.
Ski pants were overkill for me, too hot. John liked his.
Two layers (not three) with a coat is best as inside they keep rooms so warm.
Waterproof gloves are wise, but lighter weight allow you to take photos and dry quickly.
Surprised there was no real snow except in the higher mountains. Apparently the earth is too warm for it to "stick" unless the snowfall lasts longer.
Icelandic food has a lot of salt.
Eating out and souvenirs are expensive compared to other travels.
About our flight from Rekjavik to Seattle - Oh brother.
Every time we take a trip I am reminded how much I dislike flying. The highlight today was sitting with a family of 8. The youngest, under 2, right across the aisle from me. He managed to throw his cup of 7-up all over me and my belongings. Of course that was when he was screaming at the top of his lungs. Mom stood in the aisle with him bouncing him frantically for 7 hours of the eight hour flight. Not sure what annoyed me most, his feet in my face or her butt. Anyway, I think I might have earned some award in heaven for patience... maybe? The 5 y/o daughter whined and quietly fussed 95% of the entire trip while mom was busy threatening her and pushing her back out of the aisle. Grandma on the inside seat apparently never thought to switch seats with her. The 3 boys in front of us in the middle section did sleep for a short while but their awake fun was seeing how far back the seats would go...Right - no matter how hard you push it, even with your feet, it will only go so far. Grandma and Dad were oblivious to the entire fiasco. He was asleep and she was reading. You never saw me get off a plane so fast. The flights were on time and we are safe, that's all that really matters. I kept wondering WHERE ARE THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS??? The reality is, the few times they passed by, they did nothing.
It's good to be home. Thanks be to God!
